Finding my passion
When I was young, I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I did, however, struggle with weight issues which became a defining factor in my growth and eventual career path. Seeking more answers and education to overcome my struggle, I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Exercise Science, in an attempt to finally take control of my own health.
Growth
That was really just the beginning. My struggle defined me so much that I began to have aspirations of becoming a fitness coach. In October of 2010, after graduating with my B.S., I accepted a job at Equinox Fitness—-the leader in the entire commercial fitness industry. Flash forward and I’ve now been a personal trainer at Equinox for nearly a decade. Throughout this time I’ve been cultivating my love for helping others become stronger, build muscle, lose fat, and increase their overall health through gym, in-home, and virtual sessions with private clients.
I’m forever grateful to Equinox and how they’ve helped develop me into the coach I am today. Having completed 120+ hours of Equinox’ education curriculum, maintaining 95+ personal training sessions per month, and completing the Precision Nutrition course (the current industry gold standard) I eventually reached the level of Tier 3+ Equinox Trainer – the highest level among my cohort. As a senior trainer, I continue to mentor novice trainers and conduct client success training lectures and seminars.
Taking my passion online
Helping people overcome their weaknesses has been a most gratifying endeavor. Still, I wanted more. I felt limited in my scope and ability to help others. I wanted to do more and reach more people, and so I became fascinated with the prospect of training clients over the internet. While the online coaching world was still in its early stages, I knew this was the future. In 2018, I became a certified online trainer through the Online Trainer Academy, the most prestigious of its kind in the industry. I had no idea, back then, how much I was preparing myself for the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
My personal struggle with injuries
Around this time, I incurred physical injuries, in various places, due to a combination of powerlifting and poor mobility. I spent almost two years discouraged by being unable to lift weights or exercise without pain that wouldn’t go away. I felt a lot of things during that time including shame and embaressment. I was supposed to be an ambassador of health and wellness, yet I couldn’t even move or exercise without pain. Needless to say, it was not a great time in my life. However, much like my struggle with weight loss almost a decade earlier, these feelings drove me to educate myself further in a quest to understand more about joint mechanics and injury. I then decided I wanted to build an online coaching business specializing in mobility. This would become the second time my personal struggles defined my career path.
Becoming a Mobility Specialist
The more I learned about joint health and movement, the more I applied those concepts to my own training until I finally achieved what none of the doctors or physical therapists could give me—-pain-free movement.
Suffice it to say, these were the most defining years for me. Through continuing my education in mobility, flexibility, and movement optimization, I have acquired six highly regarded certifications in the field. These include two levels of Fascial Stretch Therapy, Functional Range Conditioning, Functional Range Assessment, Kinstretch, & Stick Mobility. You would be hard pressed to find better mobility and flexibility modalities than Fascial Stretch Therapy and Functional Range Conditioning—these methodologies are considered the gold standard in the industry today and are recognized and respected by coaches and doctors all over the world. Combining these methods with my online coaching experience has brought me to where I am today.
To say these courses have changed my career and life is an understatement. I’m driven to be able to do for others what I was able to do for myself; overcoming constant injuries due to poor joint mechanics. I’ve since conducted multiple flexibility & mobility seminars for Equinox trainers and members alike and have become regarded as the local expert in my field. If you’re struggling with limited movement, pain, or constant injuries, I can help.
